We are looking for mentors to work with students at Southgate Elementary School in helping them complete their science fair projects. No preparation for mentoring is necessary. We provide all the supplies and directions for mentors and students. You just need to arrive ready to work with 2 students as they work on together to build a board for their science fair project. No scientific knowledge is required. If you can follow directions, you can make a difference in the lives of these kids.
Prior to volunteering, mentors will need to:
- Complete background check with Austin Public Schools (no cost to volunteers) online at https://www.austin.k12.mn.us/Pages/hr/hr-background-checks.aspx If you have passed a background check with the Austin Public Schools within the past 3 years, you don't need to complete this step.
- Complete the online orientation. This takes less than an hour. A link will be sent out after you let us know you want to volunteer. If you have volunteered with this program before, you don’t need to complete this orientation again.
