Hormel Foods, United Way of Mower County and the Hometown Food Security Project are partnering with the Austin High School student body during Hunger Action Month to improve food security for young people in our community. The entire student body will assemble 24,000 snack packs to fuel their peers participating in after school activities – and fill the school’s food pantry – ensuring that every student has access to a nutritious snack. Additional snack packs will be distributed to local food shelves and other organizations in the community. This packing event also provides an inspiring outlet for students to support each other and their community. During this homecoming week event, the combined student body will dedicate more than 1,600 volunteer hours to pack snacks provided by MATTER.
Adult volunteers are needed to help set up and tear down the event, assist students with packing snacks, and writing notes. Please note the following:
- One volunteer shift: 8-12 on 9/26
- Please register only if you are available for the full shift
- Volunteers are required to complete a background check with Austin Public Schools
- An authorization form will be emailed to registered volunteers for completion
- A virtual training session will be hosted by MATTER on 9/25
- Information will be emailed to registered volunteers but attendance is not required
- The volunteer station will be located at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on the day of the event
